How can you help your child become a reader? Listed below are some ideas to help you become your child's first teacher. Enjoy! Please feel free to contact me at [email protected] or 574-936-2443 ext. 4121.
Explore books with your child-Visit the library, this gives you and your child a chance to find topics and books that may interest both of you.
Read at least 20 mins. per day with your school age child -Kindergarten and 1st grade children can partner read with you. Pre-School and younger children can listen to a story for about 10 minutes, especially if it is an interactive book or if you discuss the pictures and point out details in the picture.
Be an example! Children learn by example, so let your child see you read whether it be a book, newspaper, or cookbook!
Next month I will be discussing ideas for beginning and advanced readers.
Happy Reading!
